Whitstable born and raised, James Cochran wanted to be a chef ever since he spent time baking and foraging with his mum as a young child.
His first job as a chef was at local Kent restaurant, Wheelers Oyster Bar. But moving to London James spent five years at the renowned 2 Michelin starred The Ledbury rising through the ranks to become chef de partie and later sous chef at its associated gastropub the 1 starred Harwood Arms.
James opened his restaurant 1251, putting a fine dining twist on the food from his Caribbean and Scottish heritage.
James’s debut GBM menu pays tribute to the unwavering support of the NHS staff who looked after his late mother, as well as the Windrush generation and the NHS as our tree of life.
